NIB Registration via OSS: Complete Walkthrough

Every field you need to fill in to get your Business Identification Number (NIB) through the OSS system. Free, takes 30 minutes if you have everything ready.

Before you start

  • Indonesian company established (PT PMA, PT PMDN, or CV — with Kemenkumham approval)
  • Company NPWP (tax ID) issued
  • Working email and phone number for OSS account
  • Scanned copies of: Company deed (Akta), Kemenkumham approval (SK), NPWP
  • Know your KBLI codes (use our KBLI search to find them)

NIB Registration: Step-by-Step

The Business Identification Number (NIB / Nomor Induk Berusaha) is the single most important document for doing business in Indonesia. It replaces the old SIUP, TDP, and API licenses.

Cost: Free. Time: 1 business day if all prerequisites are ready.

Before You Start

Make sure you have:

  • [x] Company legal entity established — your PT PMA / PT PMDN / CV must be registered with Kemenkumham first. NIB is issued TO a company; the company must already exist.
  • [x] NPWP (tax ID) — both the personal NPWP of directors AND the company NPWP.
  • [x] Scanned PDFs of all company documents (Akta Pendirian, SK Kemenkumham).
  • [x] KBLI codes chosen — know exactly which business activities you'll register.
  • [x] Indonesian phone number for SMS OTP verification.

Step 1 — Create an OSS Account

  1. Go to https://oss.go.id
  2. Click Daftar (Register) in the top-right corner.
  3. Choose account type: Pelaku Usaha (Business Actor) → Badan Usaha (Business Entity).
  4. Fill in the form:

- Jenis Pelaku Usaha: Choose "Badan Usaha" (legal entity, not individual)

- Nama Penanggung Jawab: Director's full name as on KTP/passport

- NIK/Paspor: Indonesian ID number OR foreign passport number

- Jabatan: Director

- Email: Your business email (this receives your NIB certificate)

- Handphone: Indonesian phone number

  1. Click Daftar. You'll receive an OTP via SMS.

Step 2 — Log In and Fill Company Data

  1. After OTP verification, you'll be redirected to your dashboard.
  2. Click Permohonan Baru (New Application) → Perorangan/Badan Usaha.
  3. Select: Badan UsahaPerseroan Terbatas (PT).
  4. Enter company details:

- Nama Perusahaan: Exact name on your Akta (including "PT" prefix)

- NPWP Perusahaan: 15-digit company tax ID

- Nomor Akta Pendirian: Deed number from your notary

- Tanggal Akta: Deed date

- Nomor SK Kemenkumham: Decree number from Ministry of Law

  1. Upload PDF scans of:

- Akta Pendirian (establishment deed)

- SK Kemenkumham (Ministry approval letter)

- NPWP certificate

Step 3 — Select KBLI Codes

  1. In the left menu, click Data PerusahaanBidang Usaha.
  2. Click Tambah Bidang Usaha (Add Business Activity).
  3. Search for your KBLI code (e.g., 56101 for restaurant).
  4. For each code, enter:

- Modal Kerja: Working capital for this activity (in IDR)

- Alamat Usaha: Physical address where this activity happens

- Luas Lahan Usaha: Land area used (in square meters)

- Jumlah Tenaga Kerja Indonesia: Number of Indonesian employees

- Jumlah Tenaga Kerja Asing: Number of foreign employees

  1. Click Simpan (Save) after each KBLI code.

Tip: For PT PMA, total investment must be at least Rp 10 billion (excluding land and buildings). This includes working capital + fixed assets.

Step 4 — Answer Risk Assessment Questions

The system will present a questionnaire based on your KBLI codes:

  • Does your business process environmentally sensitive materials?
  • Do you handle food for public consumption?
  • Do you store hazardous chemicals?
  • etc.

Answer honestly. Your answers determine the risk classification (Low, Medium-Low, Medium-High, High) which in turn determines what other permits you need beyond NIB.

Step 5 — Submit and Download NIB

  1. Review all data on the summary page.
  2. Click Kirim (Submit).
  3. For low-risk activities: NIB is generated instantly as a PDF — download it from your dashboard.
  4. For medium-risk activities: NIB is issued after you submit additional commitments (like environmental compliance letter).
  5. For high-risk activities: NIB is issued after verification by the relevant ministry (1-14 days).

After You Get Your NIB

Your NIB includes:

  • NIB number (13 digits)
  • Your KBLI codes
  • Validity: indefinite (does not expire)
  • Company profile

You can now:

  • Open a business bank account
  • Register for BPJS (social security)
  • Apply for sector-specific permits
  • Hire employees legally

Important Notes

  • NIB is free. If anyone asks you to pay for NIB issuance itself, that's a scam.
  • You can update your NIB anytime as your business changes (new addresses, additional KBLI codes).
  • Failure to update NIB within 30 days of material changes can invalidate it.
